Oklahoma!

Why see Oklahoma!?

The Iconic Musical

Rodgers and Hammerstein's debut 1943 musical set in OK state is undoubtedly an all-American classic. Originally based on the 1931 play by Lynn Riggs, Green Grow the Lilacs, this musical has been nominated for and won various theatrical awards, including a Tony Award and a special Pulitzer Prize for the original libretto. Don't miss it as this special homegrown production of the musical that comes sweeping down the plains!

So take a trip back in time as Oklahoma comes to a stage near you, bursting with musical theatre standards including 'Oh, What A Beautiful Mornin', 'People Will Say We're In Love' and many more.

What Is The Story?

Set in Claremont in 1906, the story is centred on a love triangle involving a kind and good-natured cowboy, Curly, a surly and dangerous farmhand, Judd, and a farmgirl, Laurie. In the background, a similar love story evolves between Annie Ado and Will Parker, but is almost thwarted by the unscrupulous huckster Ali Hakim.

With a box social coming up that evening, Curly unsuccessfully tries to woo Laurie, who instead accepts a date from Jud, despite being terrified by him. Jealousy, love, and justice are the name of the game as Curly makes his play for Laurie, and Jud tries to stop him - with deadly consequences.
